Word Panda is a blog about etymology, or the study of the origin and history of words. Etymology is not to be confused with entomology, which is the study of insects. 🐝

I decided to start this blog because I have an uncommon interested in etymology. Sometimes when I use a word or phrase is everyday life I stop and wonder, “Why do we say that word? Where does it come from?” When I look up the answer I usually become very excited at this newfound knowledge and want to share it with someone. Sadly, not many people possess the same enthusiasm for word histories. I thought a blog would be a good way to satisfy my urge to share and to show others that the history of words can be interesting. I also hope to reach others who share my interest.
